Nathan Kiteng (pictured right) and Dramen Imeyesep (pictured left) had no idea where their careers would lead when they joined Frieda River Limited in 2008 and 2016 respectively.
Over the years, Nathan and Dramen have developed and perfected different cooking skills having worked as assistant cooks under the supervision of previous chefs employed by the Company.
As part of its localisation strategy, Frieda River Limited, is committed to developing local people to gain new skills to increase local capability.
In 2019, the Company sponsored Nathan and Dramen to study commercial cookery at the International Education Agency College of Technical And Further Education (TAFE) in Papua New Guinea.
The duo mentioned that their journey from kitchen hand to chef, made possible by Frieda River Limited, has been both rewarding and enriching.
Their passion for cooking is enjoyed by all onsite – employees and visitors alike. From baking delicious pastries to feeding the entire workforce and visitors is no challenge too big for the cooking duo.
“We had no experience in commercial cooking when we joined the Company. We were kitchen hands starting off our careers, cleaning dishes. However, through on-the-job training and the TAFE course, we’re fortunate to learn the art of cooking.
“We are grateful for the Company’s support and sponsorship that has given us the tools and confidence to use our skills every day,” Nathan said.
